Q. Rab, you play piano on this, and presumably wrote the song at the piano- what are the main differences for you between constructing a song on piano or on guitar?
RA. I don’t see a major difference in the process other than the piano tends to pick out the melodic line. I was thinking about the Layla piano outro initially.
Q. The chord sequence isn’t typical of other Hellfire work and the song goes in different places musically- what was the inspiration ?
RA. Well, it moved on – more towards a bit of a homage to the Walker Brothers and also to the Jayhawks. I’d been listening to a lot of Walker Brothers at the time.
KI. I think I remember Rab, Mark and Bob stayed on in the studio to do this at the end of our last tiring day. They met us later, dejected, saying they didn’t think they had nailed it. A few weeks later the sax and guitar solos were added - I expected to hear a shambles and was pretty much dumbfounded what had actually been recorded –it’s an anthem - certainly one of the album highlights !
